Pernille Hemmer's visit

Prof. Pernille Hemmer, Rutgers University, visited the research unit over international women's day to set up research collaborations, mentor our junior researchers and attend the Berlin-Bochum Memory Symposium.

Collaborations with P1 (PI-Ricarda Schubotz), P4 (PI-Oliver Wolf & Nora Herweg), P5 (PI-Laurenz Wiskott) and P8 (PI-Nikolai Axmacher) were discussed. These collaborations will be executed under the DFG's Mercator Fellow program (funding pending). At a luncheon, hosted by the research unit, junior women researchers were given the chance to network with Pernille who is a prominent member of Women in Cognitive Science (WiCS) and Women of Mathematical Psychology (WoMP) and is committed to mentoring female students.

Our first ever hybrid colloquium was held on Tuesday March 8th where Pernille spoke about integrating episodic and semantic information in memory for natural scenes. After a few technical hiccups the talk ran smoothly for both those in the room and those joining us remotely.

The research unit FOR 2812 "Constructing scenarios of the past: A new framework in episodic memory" is a project funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). The research unit studies the cognitive and neuronal mechanisms underlying scenario construction in episodic memory. We employ and integrate approaches from Philosophy, Psychology, and Experimental and Computational Neuroscience.
